My lab investigates how new plant forms evolve using comparative genetics, genomics, and developmental biology. We seek to uncover the genetic and developmental mechanisms that drive morphological innovation, with a particular focus on repeated (i.e., convergent) evolution of traits, such as plant armature. By comparing independently evolved lineages, we aim to identify general principles governing trait innovation and develop new approaches for engineering plant form and function.
