Research With research colleagues I study the cell biology, physiology, genomics, and metagenomics of algae and plants. I author textbooks (without using AI): Biology, Princlples of Biology, Plant Biology, Algae, and Ancestry of Land Plants.

Research I was a research plant photobiologist for about twenty-five years mainly studying phytochrome before transitioning to managing and teaching in the Introductory Biology sequence at UW-Madison.
