Research
I am an ecosystem scientist who studies water quality and fisheries as systems of people and nature. I’ve organized collaborations among scientists, managers and the public to improve the quality of working landscapes and the waters that drain them. I served as President of the Ecological Society of America, a co-Chair of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, Director of the Center for Limnology, lead investigator of the North Temperate Lakes Long-Term Ecological Research site, and leadership roles in global programs for social-ecological resilience.
