Phylogenomics; historical biogeography; macroevolution; comparative development

Our research group works on phylogenomics, evolutionary developmental biology, and comparative genomics of ancient invertebrate groups, with emphasis on chelicerate arthropods. Our efforts are motivated by the goals of understanding how to break impasses in the resolution of recalcitrant nodes in the Tree of Life, as well as deciphering the developmental genetic and genomic basis for key innovations and macroevolutionary transitions, such as specialization of arthropod appendages, loss of eyes in caves, and repeated conquest of land by terrestrial radiations.
